Property Rights

Our current situation: King County recently proposed new rules that caused grave concern for septic system owners that easements and unfettered government inspections would be required before septic permits could be issued, monitoring contracts with private companies would also be required, and faulty systems could be required to be replaced with the latest expensive technology that they couldn’t afford.

My solution:  I proposed and worked on bipartisan legislation that would provide a reasonable ability for government to ensure public safety and property owners would have more assurance that they would be able to keep and afford their homes and septic systems. While it just barely missed being passed by the legislative cutoff, I am confident we will get it passed this session.

In the meantime, as the State Board of Health has opened the rule making process on this topic, our efforts have steered their process in the right direction.
